Hazel Harvey Peace Lecture

I was really glad I was able to attend the Hazel Harvey Peace Lecture.  I loved the speaker!  Dr. Mardis was full of energy and really made me excited to become a Library Media Specialist.  I really liked how she went into detail about Melvil Dewey and John Dewey.  It gave me a better understand of why and how the library and Dewey system is the way it is!  I also loved her view of STEM and how we as librarians can have such a big role in math, science, and technology in schools.  I also liked how she said the library is a "place, not a space".  There is so much that can be done in the library if the right person is in charge and is full of energy to make the library a great space!

I was also glad I went so I could meet some of the professors and other students.  That is one of the draw backs of not meeting face to face is you don't build those relationships as easily.  I was given a lot of great information to help me throughout the length of my degree program.  I also enjoyed the ref-works.  Research is one of my week points and helped to have the information shown to me by people and not just an online chat!  I look forward to next year and hope that I can attend the lecture again.
